Applying for exemptions

If you are eligible to apply for exemptions here are some points you should know:

  • You must make your exemption application before signing up for a qualification. This is to ensure you're fully aware of the modules you're required to study to complete the programme from the outset.
  • If you have already started your qualification, we unfortunately cannot grant you an exemption.
  • You'll need to submit original (not photocopied) college transcripts as part of your application.
  • If you have completed non-Insurance Institute insurance exams (including CII exams) you may be entitled to exemptions. Please contact us at memberservices@iii.ie to clarify.
  • Time limitations apply to all exemption offers and they may be withdrawn or amended if not accepted within the timelines specified.
  • We will accept previous versions of Insurance Institute and CII exams on a case by case basis.
  • Successful exemption applications incur a fee. CII modules are not charged. Your exemption will be added to your academic record once payment is received.
