What are your Local Institutes?

The Local Institutes are voluntary organizations led by industry professionals through a Local Council. When you join The Insurance Institute, you can choose to be part of one of five local institute communities. This membership allows you to expand your network and participate in local events relevant to your area, enhancing your professional connections and opportunities.

Sligo Golf Outing

The Insurance Institute of Sligo is pleased to announce a Fourball Golf Outing at the fantastic Strandhill Golf Club. The relaxed fourball format is designed to connect members and guests and there will be great prizes on offer.

Guided Hike in Howth

The Insurance Institute of Dublin is delighted to invite members and colleagues from across the insurance community to join us for a Guided Hike in Howth on Saturday, 5 September 2026.

  • Meeting Time: 10:45 am
  • Meeting Place: Howth DART station for bus pick-up
  • Price: €7.50 per person, with all ticket proceeds going to charity

Climb Croagh Patrick for Western Alzheimers

The Local Insurance Institutes of Ireland, being led by the Insurance Institutes of Galway & Sligo are delighted to announce a joint fundraising initiative in support of Western Alzheimers. We are inviting all members and their families from across all local institutes to join us as we take on the Croagh Patrick Climb on Saturday, September 12th, to raise funds for this worthy cause.

  • Date/Time: Saturday 12 September | Climb begins 10am
  • Location: Croagh Patrick, Mayo
  • Tickets: €45 Family ticket, €25 Individual ticket
  • Buses: Dependent on numbers, buses will depart and return same day from Galway & Sligo (A small fee will be incurred)

Spike Island Tour

The Insurance Institute of Cork is excited to invite members and their families to an unforgettable visit to Spike Island, one of Ireland's most remarkable Heritage destinations. Step back in time as we explore the island's fascinating history, from its monastic beginnings to its role as a military fortress and later as one of the world's largest prisons. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a cultural experience with family while connecting with fellow members of the Insurance Institute of Cork.

The Annual Dinner is the most popular event in the Local Institute calendar. President, Jonathan McDonagh and his Council are looking forward to a great evening of catching up with members of the local insurance community over a great meal and even better conversation.

Model Constitution for Local Institutes

Local Institutes are governed by a Model Constitution – meaning each local institute has the same constitution document.

The Model Constitution sets out how a local institute may be formed, how it should be administered and governed and how a Local Council is appointed for that purpose.

The Model Constitution also sets out the connectivity a local institute has to the national Insurance Institute and how it appoints representatives who in turn form part of the governance of the Insurance Institute.
